Canggu has become increasingly popular over the last few years, and for a good reason. Canggu has the charm of the “real Bali,” while still providing plenty of activity’s and dining options.

Below we have listed 9 of our favorite things to do in the Canggu area.

1. Visit the Tanah Lot Temple

Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot probably doesn’t need much introduction, since it is Bali’s most famous temple. The temple is just a 15 minute drive from Canggu.

The Tanah Lot presents itself best at sunset, where the flaming sun can be a spectacular background for the temple. Unfortunately, this is one of Bali’s worst kept secrets. So you will be sharing the view with what particularly in the peak seasons, can feel like the majority of Bali’s tour busses.

If you want to avoid the crowds it is best to get to the temple early in the day.

2. Test your swing at the Nirwana Golf Course

Nirwana Golf Course

Playing the 18 holes at the Nirwana golf course is like taking a miniature tour through Bali. The course takes you through terraced rice paddies, along the Indian Ocean, and past Bali’s iconic Tanah Lot temple.

In addition to that, golfers will enjoy the challenges of the Greg Norman designed golf course. This is considered to be Indonesia’s best golf course by many.

3. Explore the Canggu area from the back of a horse

Canngu Horseback Riding On The Beach

Bali Equestrian Centre offers horseback riding tours in Canggu. You can choose between tours on the beach or village tours. The beach tours will take you along the water’s edge on Berawa Beach early in the morning or at sunset. A village tour will take you through rice paddies and small villages.

The tours are held at walking pace making them suitable for children from 7 years and up. For even younger children, Bali Equestrian club offer pony rides and grooming within the club grounds.

4. Go shopping at Canggu’s Sunday Market and Canggu Shop

Samadi Cangu Sunday Market 2

Every Sunday Samadi Bali, a yoga and recreational center in Canggu, hosts a small market. The market is a mix of organic local farmers selling fruits and vegetables, the occasional fisherman selling their catch of the day, artisans from the nearby villages sell handmade jewelry, and other handcrafts and Canggu expats selling homemade products.

The market is open from 9 am to 2 pm.

6. Have fun at Splash Waterpark

Splash Waterpark Canggu 2

Splash Water Park opened in late 2014 and is a part of the Canggu Club, which the entrance fee also grants you access to.

The park isn’t as extensive as Bali’s other water park, Water Bom in Kuta, but it provides plenty of fun for fans of waterslides.  There are currently six different slides to choose from, from the speedy Giant Race Slide to the Crazy Creek that will take you gentle cruising in a tube raft.

For even more children friendly fun try out the Canggu clubs trampoline or bowling center.

7. Hit the Canggu waves

Surfing Bali 2

The surf breaks at the beaches around Canggu are some of the most consistent breaks in Bali. Whether you are an experienced surfer or you never touched a surf board in your life, Canggu has something for you.

Experienced surfers will have plenty of fun at the many good spots you can choose from at Canggu, Echo, Berawa or Pererenan Beach.

If you are a beginner, we suggest you spend a bit of time with an instructor before you take on the waves on your own. There are several places at Echo Beach that offer surf lessons ranging from a single lesson to week long courses.

8. Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail on Echo Beach

End the day with a cold cocktail in your hand as the sun sets into the Indian Ocean. A popular place for sunset cocktails is Echo Beach House. If you prefer, you can bring you own drink and enjoy it in the sand.

If you stay past sunset, you should consider visiting one of the places barbequing fresh seafood right on the beach.
