The clubbing scene in Seminyak has evolved massively recently and you have a lot more options than you just had a few years ago. Even though things aren’t as lively as in rowdy Kuta (and thank God for that) you can find a place to hang out late on most nights, especially in the high seasons.
It is not uncommon that we are asked – What is the best club in Seminyak? In our opinion the five nightclubs below are among the best place for a fun night out in Seminyak, but which one is THE best club in Seminyak is probably a matter of preferences and mood.
1. La Favela Bali
Welcome to jungle right on Jalan Laksmana in the heart of Seminyak, welcome to La Favela restaurant and club.
La Favela looks like a long forgotten colonial building located at the edge of Brazilian rainforest. An extreme focus on the small details, retro and antique furniture in all shapes and colors, plants that seem to grow everywhere, old bikes, scooters and even an worn out Volkswagen van makes the illusion complete.
During the daytime La Favela functions as restaurant, but especially on weekend nights La Favela turns into a club – or more precisely something that resembles a private house party, often with a theme. Check La Favela’s Facebook page for details.
2. Hu’u Bar
Located in a distinguished wooden building on Jalan Petitenget, Hu’u Bar has been a favourite party spot for Seminyak glamorous crowds for more than a decade. The main area is combined lounge, bar and dance floor. Centrally located in the room is the bar, shaped as a square so the tenders can serve their cocktails on all four sides, surrounded by lounge chairs and tables on three sides. The fourth side of the bar opens up to the dance floor and a small stage where international DJ’s play on most weekends (Have a look at Hu’s Bar’s website for details). The DJ’s Hu’u Bar attracts are among the best you find in Bali and that alone makes Hu’u bar worth a visit.
Generally Hu’u Bar are liveliest on the weekends and in the high season.
Mint – another Jalan Petitenget favorite – has for a while been one of the trendiest spots for late night cocktail sipping and dancing in Seminyak and although newer clubs that has popped up in the in the area, Mint keeps attracting Seminyak’s glamorous expats and holidaymakers on the weekends.
Mint is everything you expect from an international night club with modern interior and furniture, true to its name held in brightly colored green, a large bar and a DJ booth from where mainly electronic music flows down on the dance floor.
Well-known international DJ’s are regularly flown in to play, keep track of who is next in line at the turntables on Mint Facebook page – see link below.
4. La Plancha
If you don’t feel like dressing up, head to La Plancha, where you can dance in the sand at this brightly colored, unpretentious, old school beach club. If you get to La Plancha early you can view the sunset while enjoying a cold one and some tapas in one the bean bag chairs right on the beach or on the two level terrace which is where you find the bar.
La Plancha looks like something that has been constructed from driftwood, but the shabby look just adds to the “the come as you like” atmosphere that surrounds the place. As the stars in the sky turns brighter, the music becomes louder and the beach starts filling up with people dancing, chatting and flirting. The DJ’s usually do good job in engaging with crowd and keeping the “dance floor” alive.
La Plancha closes at 01 am, so if you are looking for a late night out you need to find a taxi to take you to
5. The Townhouse
Update Jan. 2015, it looks like Townhouse has closed down
The Townhouse is a fashionable clubbing and dining mecca created by nightlife superstar Mark Baker, who is behind some of the world’s leading clubs and hippest parties.
The Townhouse is a stair-shaped five floor building where you can eat and drink from morning to midnight. If you are solely here for the nightlife you can skip the two first floors containing a juice bar and a bistro respectively. On the third and fourth floor you find an ultra-modern lounge and nightclub. Given the people who are behind The Townhouse it is not surprising that the cocktails being served and the DJ’s leading the party are world class. Need a quite breath of fresh air? Head to the rooftop bar on the fifth floor where you will be overlooking Seminyak and the ocean. The rooftop bar is always an excellent spot for a sunset drink.
